A new digital radio communication system in Kankakee County was implemented this week (Tuesday), silencing the police and fire scanners. The digital system replaces and upgrades the analog trunk system used since 2002. Kan-Comm coordinator Tammy Peterson says the new system provides a huge savings ($3-million) over 10 years in that, equipment is leased through the Motorola Corporation.
