Kankakee County Board opts out of Social Security Tax Holiday

President Donald Trump signed an executive order August 11 allowing for what is touted as a Social Security Tax Holiday. It allows employees to NOT pay into SS from April 1 thru December 31 … However, the program, as explained by County Administrator Anita Speckman, is not actually a tax holiday. Employees can elect not to pay the social security due from September thru December.  But Speckman sais it's actually a deferral and payment would have to be paid back in the next year. She told the County Board the employer would have to pay the money due if the money is not readily available. The money owed is deferred and would be required to pay it back in 2021.

The County Board voted to opt out of the program.
