Justice Killbride not retained

For the first time in history, Illinoisans voted to not retain a sitting Supreme Court justice, Thomas Killbride. The Citizens for Judicial Fairness group has been tracking the issue. Longtime Illinois politics observer Jim Nowlan chairs the group and said the unprecedented outcome sends a message that Illinoisans want an independent judiciary. Killbride received political money from funds controlled by House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Local voters showed support for the Bishop McNamara high school grad, but Kilbride was targeted by a billionaire group that wanted him defeated.
