Today is June 19 – a celebration of Juneteenth. The annual holiday is set aside marking the day slavery officially ended in the United States in 1865. Union troops finally delivered word to Galveston, Texas that the Civil War had ended.
Organizations commemorate the day with activities aimed to continue the education and conversation about social justice and awareness.
