Iroquois County: 2nd Jail Inmate dies

A second inmate, found unresponsive in his cell at the Iroquois County Jail this week, has died. The family of Jason Fancher confirms he died last (Thurs) evening at a Champaign County hospital. He had been listed in critical condition since he was discovered unresponsive at the jail Tuesday evening. Fancher was pronounced dead at 6:08 pm.  An autopsy will be scheduled.

Meanwhile --- Illinois State Police investigators continue their investigation into circumstances surrounding the two unresponsive inmates found at the jail this week.

24-year-old Andre Maiden of Hoopeston was discovered in his cell Wednesday morning. Maiden’s family is seeking answers as to what happened to him. No cause of death has been made known. An autopsy is planned today (Friday). Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum said a COVID test came back negative.

Both Maiden and Fancher were facing homicide-related charges in separate Iroquois County cases.
