Iroquois Board still negotiating community policing

Police protection for the City of Gilman and the Village of Onarga remains up in the air. A partnership thru the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department for police patrols hit a roadblock during the County Board meeting (Tuesday). Some financial matters may require another look.

A couple of months ago, County Board Chairman John Shure said such an arrangement could maybe be an example for other communities to consider; whereby there’s help for both sides. The county may be able to provide law enforcement in exchange for some finances to overcome the additional manpower the county would need to help blanket the other towns/villages.
