ILLINOIS STATE POLICE MAKE ARREST IN ILLINOIS ROUTE 150 BICYCLIST FATAL CRASH

A Mahomet man is jailed in Champaign County charged in the fatal crash involving a bicyclist on Sunday, Octoner 11. State Police investigators Wednesday arrested 41-year-old Robert O'Malley.He's jailed on a $500,000 bond. 

Reviewing the original report, State Police said three bicyclists were traveling on the north side of the roadway on Illinois Route 150 at 4:20 pm October 11.  They were westbound when a vehicle traveling westbound struck one of the bicyclists, causing injuries that led to his death. A second bicyclist was also struck, but received non-life-threatening injuries. The offending vehicle did not stop and left the scene.

On Wednesday, Zone 5 Investigators located and seized the alleged offending vehicle – a white 2014 Ford Mustang, that was posted in the media by police as the vehicle-of-interest. The Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Robert F. O’Malley.  He's charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death. O’Malley turned himself in on Thursday 10/22.
