Illinois farmers encouraged by recent sales to China

China is buying again and it’s especially encouraging for Illinois farmers. For the past two months, China has been buying large amounts of U.S. corn and soybeans.

Jonathan Coppess, a policy analyst with the University of Illinois, said farmers are hoping for big sales this fall from their largest trading partner. Coppess said the Phase One trade deal signed in February holds a lot of promise for farmers, but there are no guarantees that China will come through and buy. There is a lot of wait and see.
