A handful of fire departments responded to a house fire in Paxton Friday. A one-story home in the 500-block of Fall Street was destroyed. A couple living there escaped uninjured. Officials said the fire appeared to have started on the rear deck and spread to the attic. The cause hasn’t been determined. Five other area fire departments provided mutual aid, including Buckley, Loda, Elliott, Ludlow and Rantoul.
