Field fires burn 10 acres near Gibson City

Volunteer firefighters from Gibson City and Elliott responded to a field fire west of Ford County Road 300 East and Illinois 9 Wednesday afternoon. The call was answered just before 5:30. It was one of several field fires fed by the high winds, clocked at 40-48 mph.  Ten acres of stubble burned in a bean field. Gibson City Fire reported crews kept the flames away from a nearby corn field.

Earlier in the day, Gibson City firefighters assisted the Sangamon Valley Fire Protection District at a field fire near the U.S. 136 and Illinois Route 47.
