Fast-moving storm leaves behind damage in Illiana

A severe storm blew through the area just before 4 p.m. today (Monday). Clean-up was underway much of the evening. Several reports of power lines down, tree limbs lined many yards and roadways. Some streets were flooded. Many roads were limited for traffic either by trees down or power lines.

Reports of houses being damaged by fallen trees had emergency crews asking people to stay home to avoid unneeded traffic congestion.

Trees blocked several roadways in Watseka. The north side of town appeared to have the most damage. A large fallen tree closed Oak Street between 3rd and 4th Street. Ash Street was also messed up with fallen trees.

Kankakee County Emergency Management reported many neighborhoods without power. Traffic lights were not operating. That led to back-ups. Fire personnel in Aroma Park and Limestone reported widespread damage.

Ameren Illinois activated its Emergency Operations Center to deal with several service areas without power.
