Drug Take-Back Day nets record amount

The Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (KAMEG), the Pledge for Life Partnership, and Riverside Healthcare partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at the Northfield Square Mall. KAMEG Director Chris Koerner reported that the event was an overwhelming success with approximately 1,125 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs turned in for safe disposal in Kankakee County alone. This amount surpassed the old record.

Expired drugs were also collected at the Iroquois County Jail Saturday. Several police agencies and public health departments also accept the meds all year round.
