COVID-19 cases closes South Newton School Corp.

It seems like it was just a matter of time. The South Newton School Corporation in Indiana is closed due to coronavirus cases. A letter to the South Newton Family from Superintendent Casey Hall says ‘the difficult decision to close the school corporation was made….the corporation is shut down until Tuesday, November 3.

Officials were notified of two positive COVID cases in the school corporation; one from the elementary school and another from the high school. The two positive cases affected a large percentage of the corporation, including numerous students and staff members. Sup’t Hall said ‘the health and safety of staff and students is, and always, will be the number one priority.’

While there will be no in-school activity the next 2 weeks, remote learning will continue. Thursday will still be a parent-teacher conference date 10/22.  The school district is continuing to work with the Newton County Health Department to identify those who would be considered close contacts with the positive cases.
