ComEd Update: 90 percent of customers have service restored

ComEd officials report the restoration numbers keep on getting better. The company is now saying 90 percent of its customers have their power back on after so many were left without since Monday’s tornado activity slammed northeast Illinois and NW Indiana. The ComEd website indicated about 66,000 customers are still without. Some communities were told earlier it may be Saturday before lines are restored.

The Village of Manteno is fully restored. Kankakee County areas waiting for their service include parts of Bradley and Bourbonnais, the City of Kankakee, Momence, Bonfield, Limestone, Herscher and Pembroke Township.
Parts of Iroquois, Livingston, Grundy and Will County also have scattered customers waiting for service.

ComEd is being assisted thru mutual aid from other utility companies and contracted service-help. A ComEd spokesperson said the extent of damage is not just repairing downed lines and poles but also rebuilding the entire transmission system.
