A Blast from the Past: White Sox hire LaRussa

Tony La Russa — the 76-year-old Hall of Famer — ha been named the new Chicago White Sox manager The White Sox stunned the baseball world Thursday, announcing the hiring of Tony La Russa as their new manager.

It’s a blast from the past for the franchise with the return of La Russa, who led the Sox to a division title in 1983.

LaRussa was fired by White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf some 86 games into the next season.  LaRussa then piloted the Oakland A's to a World Championship and later managed the St. Louis Cardinals to a world title.  LaRussa last managed the Cardinals in 2011.
