53 years in prison for DeMotte, IN man

A stabbing death of a DeMotte, Indiana woman in 2018 now finds the woman’s husband heading to prison. 37-year-old Joseph Borgia was handed a lengthy 53-year prison term in Jasper Superior Court. Borgia plead guilty in September for the death of 35-year-old Amanda Borgia. She was found dead in the couple’s home by firemen who responded to a fire call. Prosecutors said there was no fire. Instead, the victim’s body was discovered. Joseph Borgia stabbed his wife several times in the presence of the couple’s two young children.

Borgia was originally charged with murder, two counts of neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana. After more than two years of the case pending, Borgia entered a guilty plea agreement 1-count of murder and 1-count of neglect of a dependent. Judge John Potter imposed the sentence. The two boys, ages 3 and 5, have since been adopted by their grandparents.
