$5-million bond set for Kankakee murder

In Kankakee Circuit Court, a $5-million bond was set for 21-year-old DeJour Turner-Owens. He faces a first-degree murder charge for the shooting death of 26-year-old Marquise Smith of Kankakee. Smith died at Loyola University Medical Center after being shot September 13 in the 300-block of South Wildwood Avenue in Kankakee.

Kankakee Police had been withholding Turner-Owens’ name while the State’s Attorney reviewed the case. Turner-Owens was picked up by police Tuesday. Smith was one of two people wounded by gunfire in separate shootings Sunday. Police said Turner-Owens was identified as the gunman.
