Benton County teen awarded life-saving honor

A Benton County teenager was recognized for his life-saving response to a young baseball player.

17-year-old Chandler Henry helping his uncle coach little league practice in Oxford May 23rd when 12-year-old Tristen Clements was hit in the chest with a ball and collapsed.

Chandler Henry quickly administered CPR along with his uncle. Tristen started breathing again shortly before an ambulance showed up.

Chandler said he truly believes he was in the right place at the right time. He knew what to do from taking classes to be an EMS responder.

The Oxford Fire Department presented Chandler with a life-saving award. He was also recognized at the Benton Central high school graduation event.

More I-65 road work in Indiana

Another round of construction is started in Tippecanoe County.

Beginning Monday, work crews began patching and resurfacing on State Road 43. The work is just south of Interstate 65 to just north of State Road 225. State Road 43 will be restricted to one lane throughout the process.

As always, drivers should use caution while driving through the area. The work is expected to be completed by September.

Oakwood woman crowned Miss Illinois

Miss Abby Foster is the new Miss Illinois. The product of Oakwood High School High School will now represent the state in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.

The honor for Miss Foster came Saturday night. She was crowned in Marion.

Foster was competing as Miss East Central in the contest. The Danville woman earns $10,000 in scholarship money. The Miss America Pageant is in September.

Cissna Park woman among 2 hurt in crash

Two people were injured in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in rural Champaign County.

Illinois State Police report 86-year-old Helen Hamrick of Cissna Park was westbound on U.S. 136 just before 1:30 pm when she traveled into the eastbound lane and hit a pickup truck driven by 86-year-old Dwight Snyder of Rantoul.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
Police said Hamrick was cited for improper lane use.

Truck driver injured in I-65 rollover

A semi driver suffered a broken arm when his truck overturned on Interstate 65 early Sunday morning.

Indiana State Police report it happened just south of the Wolcott/Chalmers exit. The semi overturned in the median.
The accident may have been related to strong thunderstorms at the time.
