Former Township Supervisor gets prison time for cheating IRS

Cheating the IRS out of $66,000 has resulted in a year and –a-half prison term for a former Pembroke Township Supervisor.

Larry Gibbs was sentenced (this week) to federal prison for cheating the Internal Revenue Service.

He was ordered to report to prison June 12th.

Gibbs pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return in 2005 and fraudulently obtaining the refund.

Federal prosecutors say Gibbs tried two more times to claim false refunds totaling more than $159,000. But he never received the money.

Following his indictment in May of 2012, Gibbs resigned from his township position.
