Sheldon Fire Results in $100,000 Damage

A garage fire was fueled by high winds Monday, spreading to a house and resulting in damages pegged at $100,000. There was no injury. The cause is yet to be determined.

Sheldon firemen answered the call to 102 W Cottage Avenue in Sheldon. Mutual aid was provided by firemen from Concord, Donovan, Stockland, Milford, and Watseka. Martinton was also on standby.

The fire started in a detached garage. The wind spread flames to the house. The garage, it’s contents, and a vehicle were listed as a total loss. Sheldon fireman Tim Williamson reported the west end of the house, a section of the roof, and two bedrooms sustained damage. The rest of the house is smoke-damaged, but a majority of contents can be salvaged. Heat from this fire also melted siding on the house to the west.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.
