Candidates are looking for voter approval today for several local governmental offices. It’s Election Day in Illinois. The Consolidated Election groups municipal, school board, junior-college districts, fire and library districts, and referendums.

Statewide, officials only expect 20-25% of the voters to turnout. Iroquois County Clerk Lisa Fancher is hopeful up to 30% will cast ballots locally. Election officials in Vermilion County are predicting only about a 17-percent voter turn-out as voters head to the polls today. 

Voters are casting ballots today in races for City Council and Village Board seats, Kankakee, Danville, and Parkland Community College Trustees and other school board races. Several contested races at the township level of government are popular on ballots. Some communities, including Watseka, Gilman, Clifton, Danville, Fairbury and Pontiac, have a question on the ballot for electric aggregation. 

The polls open at 6:00 a.m. and will remain open until 7:00 p.m.
