Milford looks toward a single Unit School District

A single, unit school district for a given community could bring a substantial increase in state aid payments. And—the Milford school officials are moving toward a merger between the Milford High School District #233 and Grade School District #280.

Forming a single, unit district could result in an additional $1 million, $550,000 for the school. The general state aide formula would also benefit, according to Milford Superintendent Dale Hastings.

Consolidating the two current school districts would also streamline the government process, benefitting teachers and students. The educational tax rate would NOT change.

A public hearing on the process could be scheduled by the Iroquois-Kankakee Regional Office of Education as soon as this Fall. The matter could go to referendum by March of 2014.
