Will County State's Attorney receives award

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois State Crime Commission has selected Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow as this year's State's Attorney of the Year.

In a news release, the commission praised Glasgow as one of the most innovative state's attorneys in Illinois for creating programs for veterans, abused children, recovering drug addicts and others.

For example, the Will County Veterans Court provides treatment and counseling for veterans with mental health and substance abuse disorders. Glasgow also used money forfeited by criminals to buy a shuttle bus to take the veterans from Joliet to a VA Hospital.

The commission also noted how Glasgow has worked with it to provide free self-defense training for police officers and correctional officers, as well as partner with the commission and others to distribute coats to needy children.
