|Illinois 9 Reopened at Gibson City after Train Derailment|
GIBSON CITY — Illinois 9 near Gibson City is reopened after two train tanker cars filled with ethanol derailed but remained upright Thursday.
There was no leak and no injury reported. The highway was cleared and allowed to reopen around 1 am today.
There was a temporary evacuation of a few businesses Thursday near the One Earth Energy Ethanol Plant.
Ford County Emergency Management Agency Director Dennis Higgins said Illinois 9 was closed for about one mile on Gibson City’s west side from Illinois 47 to Ford County Road 300 North. That was a precaution since the tank cars were close to a power pole. A detour was marked.
City and county police and firefighters were at the scene.
The incident occurred just south of the One Earth Energy ethanol production plant, just west of Gibson City. The rail-spur lines runs through the plant grounds. The cars left the track about a half mile west of the Illinois 47/9 intersection.
