Mayor Epstein Wins, Alderman Hunter Loses in Kankakee Primary

Veteran alderman Steve Hunter lost his re-election bid Tuesday in the Kankakee primary, while incumbent Mayor Nina Epstein was an easy winner.

The 7th Ward voters chose to make a change, selecting Fred Tetter to the aldermanic post. Hunter was a 40-year alderman. Tetter gathered 215 votes to 194 for Hunter.

The Republican mayoral primary went to Epstein, 532 votes to 106 for Dan Sullivan.

Mayor Epstein will face Jarman Myron Porter in the April 9th Consolidated Election. Porter won a 3-man Democratic primary. Porter had 720 votes, Tim Schmidt 520 and Robert Snipes 296.

Other winners in Kankakee’s Democratic aldermanic races….Stacy Gall in Ward 2, Tyler Tall Sr. in Ward 5, and Mary Archie in Ward 6.
