CCHS to host ice cream social, program
The Crescent City Historical Society will be hosting its second annual ice cream social from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3 at the Crescent City Community Center. This free event is open to the public and everyone is cordially invited to attend. At this time, the society plans to serve complimentary homemade ice cream treats. At 2:15 p.m., Donald Deany will present the program “The Formation of Crescent City Schools.” Deany served as superintendent of Crescent City schools from 1966-1983. At the same time, the CCHS will be open for viewing, which is located in the upstairs of city hall. City hall and the community center are located on Main Street (Route 24). Though this is a free event, donations will be accepted as will memberships to the CCHS. The CCHS is a non-profit organization and donations and membership fees help the group to document, display and restore artifacts, along with providing insurance for items. The group is also collecting photos from the 1970 Father’s Day train derailment and fire, plus memorabilia which help to share the history of the small community. For more information on donating items or CCHS events, contact Jean Herron at 815-683-2560.
