Light Up Your Heart For Christmas in Gilman!
On Saturday, December 7th, the Gilman Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 3rd Annual Light Up Your Heart for Christmas event to celebrate the joy, the magic, the real spirit and beauty of the Christmas season. The day is free of charge to everyone who wants to join the fun. The event gets underway at 2 PM this Saturday, December 7th with fun and treats for all, but especially for the children. You and your family and friends are invited to join the celebration. The schedule of activities is as follows. 2:00-4:00 Santa Claus will visit with the children in the old city hall (Historical Society Building). Rides on Wheezie and Francis’s Radio Flyer Wagon, boarding on Central Street. Christmas stories, cookies and hot chocolate in the current city hall building. Visions of Sugar Plums – along the streets of downtown Gilman – sugar plums for all! 3:30 Christmas caroling in downtown Gilman! Anyone who would like to join the caroling is welcome and should meet at the west side of the Gilman grade school. 4:30 Gilman Churches are invited to ring their bells to signal the start of the Tree Lighting Ceremony. 4:30 – 5:00 The Community Christmas Sing led by the Iroquois West Band at “the tree” on the grounds of Prospect Bank. 4:45 The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony! Followed by more caroling. 5 PM The Santa Train will roll into Gilman for its final stop of the day. The day concludes at seven (to nine p.m.) when the Iroquois West Jazz Band presents Jingle Bell Swing, held in the IWHS gym. There will be live music from seven to eight; the dance floor and coffee/dessert bar stay open until 9:00.This special evening is an annual jazz concert/swing dance/dessert night that this year, is devoted to raising money to help support the costs of the Band and Chorus trip to New York next spring. Tickets can be purchased at Prospect Bank or Cornerstone Cafe, or from individual students. Christmas Tree Lane at the Gilman-Danforth Library will be open for viewing December 7-13 during normal library hours. On December 14, from one to three pm, there will be a reception with refreshments, live entertainment, and a silent auction, which will benefit God's Food Pantry.
