…Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 9 PM this evening to 10 am CST Wednesday…
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow…which is in effect from 9 PM this evening to 10 am CST Wednesday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.
* Timing…accumulating snow will develop this evening and
continue through the day Tuesday before ending Tuesday night.
Severe blowing and drifting snow…with possible ground blizzard
conditions in rural areas…can be expected Tuesday night into
Wednesday morning.
* Accumulations…snowfall will generally be light to moderate in
intensity…however the very long duration of the snowfall will
result in storm total snowfall by Tuesday night of 5 to 9 inches.
* Hazards…in addition to the prolonged duration of accumulating
snowfall…northwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with
gusts to 40 mph Tuesday night and continue into Wednesday
morning resulting in severe blowing and drifting snow in open
areas.
* Impacts…travel is likely to be significantly hampered during
the snow storm tonight through Tuesday night. Due to the long
duration of light to moderate snowfall even major roads and
highways may become snow covered. Blowing snow will likely
result in near white out conditions and drifting across roads
Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with travel becoming
extremely dangerous…particularly in open areas.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that accumulating snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities…and use caution while driving.
