Iroquois County contested-races include the sheriff’s race between Derek Hagen and Dan Sukel, county treasurer features the race between Mindy Kuntz-Hagan and Kelly Bauer, and the 3-way race for county clerk between Lisa Fancher, Donna Crow and Lisa Miller.
Three of five county board districts have races. In District 2, candidates include Osborne Storm, Wade Bell, David Hubert, Lennie Bertrand and Kyle Anderson. For District 3, the candidates are Donna Wasmer, Don Deany, Harriett Mowrey and Adam Zumwalt. Six candidates are after three seats in District 4, Randy Eimen, Beryl Luecke, Rod Copas, Dennis Johnson, Keith McTaggart and Gerald Whitlow.
Referendum questions include the Public Safety Sales Tax and a a Library District question to increase the tax levy at Sheldon.
> Iroquois County’s proposed half-cent-per-dollar sales tax for public safety was attracting voters early on this morning. Some election officials were thinking record numbers could turn out as the day progresses. Clerk Lisa Fancher said absentee voter numbers were over 550 Monday. That’s well above average turnout. And the fact that three county-wide offices are contested along with three county board districts with races—are reason to believe the turnout will be high.
> Ford County has a sheriff’s race on the Republican ballot. Incumbent Sheriff Mark Doran of Gibson City is challenged by Chris White and Robert Yates of Paxton. White is police chief for the Village of Rankin while Yates is a Sgt for the Paxton Police Department.
Ford County Board Districts 1 and 3 offer races for voters to consider too.
> Two elderly Bradley residents, believed to have been the subjects in a murder-suicide attempt, have both died. 86-year-old Bobby Karr and 84-year-old Dorothy Karr suffered gun shot wounds to the head Sunday at their home on Juniper Lane. Both died Monday at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. Bradley Police continue to investigate the shootings at the Karr’s home.
