> A record enrollment is helping with the financial picture at Danville Area Community College. But it is not just the extra tuition income that has DACC President Alice Jacobs excited….

Normally Danville Area Community College’s operations are funded one-third by tuition, one-third by property tax and a third by the state. But President Jacobs says in recent years the state funding has only amounted to about twenty-five percent.

During a board meeting last night, Danville Area Community College Trustees approved a routine resolution that enables the college to borrow from an internal working cash fund, if need be. But President Jacobs says despite the state’s financial woes, DACC has been fortunate….

Trustees also approved a resolution last evening allowing interfund loans as needed through the end of July. But college officials emphasized the two resolutions approved dealing with finances last night are routine, and that DACC is in good financial shape. {Vermilion County First)

> The Vermilion County Chapter of Pheasants Forever has been named the Illinois “Chapter of the Year”. In presenting the award, Pheasants Forever said the Vermilion County Chapter developed great local partnerships and donors to help complete a 108-acre land acquisition. The chapter was also cited for actively promoting the importance of membership.

In October it was announced that Forest Glen Preserve near Westville would be expanding with a 118-acre gift from Pheasants Forever. The local Pheasants Forever group spearheaded the statewide project to acquire the land, which sits just inside the main entrance to Forest Glen. The land was purchased from Spring Water Farms, Incorporated, and closed a deal that had taken about two years to complete.

Vermilion County Conservation District Executive Director Ken Konsis was particularly excited about the gift from Pheasant’s Forever. He said that was because the Conservation District would be able to use it as the local match for a $400,000 state grant. The grant is going toward future development of a new Conservation Education Center at Kennekuk County Park.
