WX > Freezing rain today, high near 32. Easterly wind 10-15 mph. A freezing rain advisory is likely to bring ice accumulations of about one-tenth of an inch. Travel will become hazardous thru Thursday morning.
> It’s day #2 of the teachers strike in Kankakee School District 111. A four-hour negotiating session did bring the two sides a little closer together Tuesday. No new meetings have been scheduled yet between the school board and Kankakee Federation of Teachers union. There’s 5500 students affected by the strike.
> Kankakee Police are investigating shootings that occurred this past weekend. Investigators said 3-4 shots were fired from a vehicle Friday night on N. Rosewood AV. Shots were reportedly fired at a house and two vehicles early Sunday on Longwood Avenue. An on E. Maple Street Monday, bullets were recovered from a home after shots were fired. No one was reported hurt in any of the shootings.
> A recent string of armed robberies continues in Danville. Tuesday, a lone bandit robbed the Hardees Restaurant on West Fairchild Street around 3 p.m. He was armed with a handgun and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries.
The Hardees incident follows an attempted robbery in the 100 block of East Fairchild Street at 1:30 Tuesday morning.
> An audience of about 125 people listened to Iroquois County candidates Tuesday night in Gilman. Candidates for Sheriff, County Clerk and Treasurer, along with District 4 County Board seats presented themselves and answered questions at a forum sponsored by the Gilman Area Chamber of Commerce. The program included a Pro and Con talk about the Public Safety Tax referendum on the Feb 2 ballot. The event was held at the Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau.
