Lawsuit filed in school taser incident….

> The Flood Warning continues for the Kankakee River at Momence.
The river level rose overnight due to ice jams thawing. The latest reading is at 5.3 feet, a little above the 5.0 flood stage. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

> A federal lawsuit has been filed in U-S. District Court on behalf of two juveniles allegedly involved in the taser case at Kankakee Junior-High School. The suits filed Thursday in Urbana seek more than $10-million for two 12-year-old boys.

Kankakee police said an officer assigned to the school used a stun gun on three male students who had volunteered to be part of an unsanctioned, classroom demonstration Tuesday. One student was treated at a local hospital after he was zapped by the taser. The officer has been placed on administrative leave while the Police Department and school district investigate.

> A Demotte, IN man was critically injured when hit by a car while he walked along Newton County Road 600-E Thursday night. 39-year-old Daniel Burge was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital at Crown Point. Sheriff’s Police said poor lighting contributed to the pedestrain accident in Lincoln Township. The driver of the car–20-yr-old Tyler Sandberg of Demotte–had turned southbound onto 600-E. Police said alcohol was not a factor in the acxcident, which happened at about 10:30 pm.

Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies, State Police and ambulance personnel also responded to the call.

> A truck and a car collided north of Paxton Thursday afternoon resulting in a Loda man being hospitalized. 29-year-old Robert J. McDonald was southbound on U.S. 45 at the Ford-Iroquois line around 12:35 pm when his pickup was struck by a car driven by Albert M. Lundeen, 82, of Paxton. Ford County Sheriff’s Police report Lundeen was westbound on Ford County Road 600 North when he failed to yield at the stop sign with U.S. 45. Lundeen refused medical treatment.

Also responding to the accident were the Paxton Police Department, Paxton Fire Protection District Gibson Area Ambulance Service and Paxton Emergency Response Service.

> Police in Danville are now looking for a third suspect in connection to Wednesday morning’s home invasion on South Buchanan Street. One suspect is still in critical condition at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. according Deputy Director of Danville Police Doug Miller.

Deputy Director Doug Miller said police were called to a house at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday and found a man who had been shot lying on the sidewalk in front of the residence. According to police, that man was one of the suspects who attempted to force their way into the house.

Police were searching for a second suspect Wednesday, but on Thursday, Miller said investigators now believe there may be a third. There were several people at the Buchanan Street house at the time of the shooting, police said, but none were injured. Details about the shooting are not yet being released.
