Charges filed, bonds set in Wal-Mart trailer theft

> Just how deep the case of a stolen Wal-Mart semi trailer goes remains to be seen. The police investigation continues with nine people facing charges, a tenth is yet to be arrested, and additional charges are possible.

Iroquois County State’s Attorney Jim Devine tells WGFA News it certainly appeared as though nine defendants arrested so far, had plans for more than $150,000 in merchandise… (News # 2) Three defendants who lived at the farmhouse along Route 49 face charges of Possession of a Stolen Tractor-trailer and Felony Theft. Bond for 43-year-old Casey Jones was set at $75,000. 54-year-old Nadine Jones’ bond is $25,000 and 22-year-old James Jones had bond set at $25,000. Six other defendants are jailed on bonds of $20,000 each. Two of the suspects are from the Chicago area. How involved all the defendants are is questionable and where the stolen merchandise was headed is something investigators are looking into…. (News # 4)

> A teachers strike in Kankakee is possible after 93% of the Kankakee Federation of Teachers union membership voted Tuesday to authorize such action. However, a union rep said there no immediate plans to strike. Another negotiating session with a federal mediator is planned Friday. Should a strike result, the union would first have to file a 10-day notice in advance with the Illinois Education labor Relations Board.

> The new fiscal year started Tuesday for Iroquois County government. And six county employees were let go. The lay-offs are tied to the budget struggles the local officials have labored over the last several months. Any additional lay-offs, including four sheriff’s deputies, are on-hold pending the outcome of a one-half cent public safety tax referendum in February.
