DeMotte, IN Girl struck and Killed

An 11-year-old DeMotte girl was killed Friday night in Wheatfield after being hit by a car and then run over and dragged about 20 feet by a second car. Police report Leah Harper was struck about 7 p.m. by a westbound car on Ind. 10 west of Ind. 49. Wheatfield police said in a news release the driver, Valarie Post, 31, of DeMotte, saw Harper, braked and swerved to the right, but she still hit the girl with her driver’s side fender and windshield. Her car went off the road into a ditch.

Post exited her car to try to warn other drivers. But it was too late.

A second westbound car on Ind. 10 struck Harper and dragged her about 20 feet. The girl was taken to Porter hospital, where she was prounounced dead upon arrival. Police said Harper was attending a party with other children Friday night at a home in Wheatfield. Police said the youths had walked to another house and was returning to the party when the accident occurred. Police said neither driver showed signs of impairmant.

i did not know this family personal but i went to school with her and i am very sorry when i find out when the wake and funeral is i will come
