A powerful storm system will be moving out of the Plains overnight, and will begin to affect western Illinois by midday Thursday, spreading across the state by evening. This system is expected to spread another round of very heavy rain across central and southeast Illinois.
Current projections indicate the potential for 2 to 4 inches east of a Rantoul to Taylorville line, and flash flood watches are in effect from this line southward across the remainder of the state.
Areas between the Illinois River and I-55 may see up to 2 inches of rain, with 1/2 to 1 inch northwest of the Illinois River. However, there may be further refinements in these projections, as the latest computer models are analyzed. The rain is expected to diminish from west to east across
the state Friday night. Along with the heavy rain, rather breezy conditions can be expected, with wind gusts to around 30 mph.
With this amount of rain on top of the already saturated soil from the last several days, runoff may lead to flash flooding. The potential for clogged drains from falling leaves may also be a factor in the flooding potential.
Any reports of rainfall or flooding you can provide to our office would be greatly appreciated!
