Richard Hubeny III was indicted after his June 6th arrest for the incident, which resulted in Chief Statler suffering a .38 caliber wound to his arm. Statler and Gilman police officer Jim Lehmkuhl responded to Hubeny’s home after a dispatch about a suicidal person. Statler was wounded during an attempt to disarm Hubeny. The charges include aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and domestic battery.

* A Lake Village, IN man is jailed in Newton County, In. 21-year-old James Sturgeon faces felony burglary and robbery charges after a lengthy investigation by several police officers. The case stems from a July 23 incident near the Lake Township Firehouse. A woman was robbed of her purse when she was approached by a man asking her to light his cigarette. The woman was grabbed and after a struggle, the man made off with the woman’s purse. Police report the suspect and his girlfriend (20-yr-old Jennifer Rosolowski) used stolen credit cards the following day. Surveillance video identified the suspects, leading to their arrests.

* A decision concerning the collapsed hotel in Momence is likely today. An emergency meeting Monday night delayed any action by the Momence City Council as to whether the building should be razed. No final decision was made about the 1853 National Hotel. A wall of the hotel collapsed Saturday, forcing local officials to close down Dixie Highway in downtown. The council gave the building’s owner a day to consider other options. Meanwhile–eight tenants of the building were looking for a new home. The building was declared a safety hazard.

* Village officials in Bourbonnais held an Open House Tuesday to show off the new administrative building. Visitors had a chance to tour the building at 600 Main Street NW. Mayor Paul Schore said the building offers pleasant accomodations, all under one roof.
