The Traveling Vietnam Wall and Cost of Freedom Exhibit has arrived in Goodland, Indiana. Visitors are welcome at the Town Park over the next six days. There are daily activities and several guest speakers scheduled each day to honor, respect and remember those who served and continue to serve. The Goodland Preservation Society sponsored the effort to bring the Vietnam Wall to the community. Society spokesman John Meyer said “this is about veterans, not just Vietnam. It’s about healing….in honor of those who served and are serving from World War I to Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
The Wall was set up Thursday. A replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Wall is 80% the size of the original, measuring 8-feet tall and 370 feet long. There are 58,253 names on it.
Also on display is the Cost of Freedom Exhibit. It’s made up of nine larage memorials comprised of gold dog tags under glass–the tags represent those who died in service since Vietnam and includes 9/11.
