NEWS UPDATE: Bowling Changes His Mind
July 2, 2009
Olivet Nazarene University officials report President John C. Bowling has changed his mind and will remain as president at the Bourbonnais univeristy. Bowling surprised the audience at the Church of the Nazarene General Assembly in Orlando, Fla., today and rescinded his election as the 38th general superintendent.
“Out of love and respect, I apologize to you all,” Bowling was quoted as saying on the Nazarene Communications Network Web site. He explained that he had awakened at 3 a.m. (the morning after accepting the honor) and said he felt “checked” by God. He said he was conflicted about his decision to accept the superintendent assignment. After Bowling made the announcement, a motion was then carried to rescind his election as general superintendent
