* The multi-state Mega Millions lottery game pot continues to grow–now at $94 million for Tuesday’s drawing. But there was a big winner from Friday’s latest draw. And a winning ticket worth $250,000 was sold at the Scotchmons East Store in Watseka. Lottery officials report although there was no grand prize winner, seven players, including two who bought tickets in Illinois, won second prizes of $250,000 each. One of the winning tickets was sold as a Quick Pick at Scotchmons. The other Illinois winning ticket was sold at a service station in Oak Forest. Friday’s night’s winning numbers were: 11, 15, 17, 29, and 46. The Mega Ball number was 16.
* A crash on the Kankakee River Saturday night sent four adults and one child to Kankakee hospitals. The Daily-Journal reports the pontoon boat they were in was struck by a speed boat on the river near Cobb Park. The pontoon boat was reportedly parked along Cobb Boulevard in Kankakee when it was struck from behind by a speed boat. The power boat appeared to have hit the parked pontoon boat from behind. The four adults and one child were taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital and Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee with minor injuries. The driver of the power boat did not report any injuries and was taken into custody by a Illinois Department of Natural Resources officer.
* A motorycle accident in Iroquois County injured a Beecher man Sunday. 54-year-old Rick Griffith was ejected from his cycle after hitting a turning car on Illinois Route 1 in Martinton Township Sunday. Griffith was taken to Riverside Medical Center. He was ticketed by Sheriff’s Police for Improper Passing at an Intersection. Police said Griffith ran into 18-year-old Riley LeClair’s car which was making a turn from Route 1 to County Road 2850-N. LeClair and his passenger refused medical attention.
* A Chebanse man who fled from the scene of a crash on I-57 faces several charges. State Police report 22-year-old Brandon Lawrence was southbound near Gilman Saturday morning when he hit a second car driven by a Decatur woman. Mary Ellis’ car spun out, hitting the guardrail four-times. Lawrence reportedly fled the scene after hitting the guardrail. He was arrested after he was found in Gilman. Charges include: DUI, Possession of Cannabis, Failure to Reduce Speed and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Gilman Police and Fire also responded.
* A 24-year-old Kankakee man was arrested for DUI-drugs during a roadside safety check in Kankakee. Daniel Salvarrey failed a field sobriety test Saturday evening at Washington and Water Streets.
* Watseka Police arrested 20-year-old Michael Paro of Woodland Saturday. Paro is charged with Possession of Cannabis / Drug Paraphernalia. He was also cited for no insurance and no seatbelt.
* 33-year-old Jeffery Kemp of Markham was jailed in Watseka after Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police returned him from the Department of Corrections in Danville. Kemp faces charges of Burglary and Theft. He was arrested on an Iroquois County warrant.
