The belief in possession by evil spirits plagued the 18th century. Madness and hysteria spread classifying the mentally ill as “Being under the control of the Devil”. These sad misfits became the victims of bizarre
exorcisms or “ Casting Out Rituals”. Banished from society they were locked away inside brutal asylums. Some called them Angels, others called them Devils, they all were branded, “The Possessed”!
Scott Anderson is the local owner of the Lurancy Vennum home said “This has been a long two years, but the wait was worth it! ‘The Possessed’ is an amazing production, and the Booth’s delivered exactly what they promised. They treat the ‘Watseka Wonder’ story with respect, and did not turn it into a ’slasher movie’ . The passion they showed towards the story (in person, when they were here filming) is obvious throughout the production, and the way they wrap up the show will tug at your heartstrings! When this airs on the SciFi Channel (later this year,?) it will be at least 90 minutes of Watseka, visable world wide! Another reason we agreed to allow them to film in our home was the promise of a local tourisim increase after the SciFi Channel air date. Everything the Booth Brothers told me to expect has happened. They have never let me down!”
Anderson also mentioned… “Realizing that not everyone in our local area may not have access to ordering on-line, and after reading in the local press that the Courthouse Museum was in need of financial assistance, local retail sites are being sought out and Spooked! Television Releasing has agreed to reduce the per-unit price for those that purchase by the case, for retail sale. Aware of the state of the economy, local as well, they would like those that request to be a local retail location to place a collection source at their counters, and include at least $1 from each sale of ‘The Possessed’ to the Old Courthouse Museum effort.”
