Bond set for burglary suspects in Iroquois County…. Police issues scam warning…..

A Winter Weather Advisory—from Noon today thru at least 6 am tomorrow. Forecasters say anywhere from 2-5 inches of snow in the Chicago area, especially north of I-80. Maybe 1-2 inches in Illiana locally. High near 24.

Bonds were set at $75,000 each in Iroquois County Monday for two suspects in weekend burglaries in Onarga and Paxton. 39-yr-old Camerson Crockarell of Granite City and 39-yr-old Michael Consiglio of Worden (IL) face several charges in connection with the breakin at the Phillips 66 service station at Onarga and the Colonial Pantry at Paxton. An alarm at the Phillips 66 station alerted Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police, who were then led on a short chase before both suspects were apprehended. Both men remain jailed in Watseka.

Area citizens are being advised of a telephone scam they should avoid by hanging up on the caller. Investigators say the telephone deception is designed to have money sent to an address in Canada. A caller advises would-be victims that he’s a grandchild stranded in Canada and needs money. Would-be victims called are elderly and do not question the identity of the caller. Police say the caller instructs the person called to send a money order. BUT POLICE SAY IT’S A SCAM AND YOUR MONEY WILL BE LOST. Your advised to hang up and notify police. Complaints have been recorded in Iroquois, Vermilion and Champaign counties.

Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Tippecanoe County Jail, who was found unresponsive in his cell early Monday. According to a release from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, David J. Tom, 34, of Lafayette, was found unresponsive in his one-man cell during a routine check by jail staff around 4 a.m. He had been in custody since his Thursday arrest by Lafayette police. He was charged in Tippecanoe Superior Court 5 with one count each of domestic battery, criminal confinement and battery by strangulation, according to the release. The Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death.

One-thousand pounds of high velocity explosives will bring down the RCA Dome Saturday morning. With over 800 holes drilled in the base and explosives inserted, destruction will take about 25 seconds and clear the way for expansion of the Indiana Convention Center.

The Brickyard Inn, a Mecca for Indianapolis 500 racers and fans will be closed immediately and torn down. The hotel has fallen on hard time recently, and the age of the structure, built in 1963, is not conducive to remodeling. Joie Chitwood, president and CEO of Indianapolis Motor Speedway said that plans for the space have not been determined.

A mattress and furniture burning alerted the Bourbonnais Fire department this morning to Olivet Nazarene University. Smoke detectors evacuated Parrott Hall. Officials say a sprinkler system just installed during the summer contained the fire until firemen arrived. No injury to report. The cause was under investigation.

The Kankakee City Council has approved a new 4-year contract for city firefighters. The first three years of the pact allow for three-percent raises. The final year of the contract allows for a four-percent pay hike.

Theodis Pace has decided not to seek the mayor’s office in Kankakee. The President of the local chapter of the NAACP cites other committments as his reason for not running for the city’s top spot. Four other candidates are seeking the job being vacated by the retiring mayor Don Green.

Job prospects in Pontiac. The Pontiac City Council has OK’d a development project that calls for 85 full-time jobs. Exact Packaging–at Route 116 and I-55–will occupy six-acres of land.
