  • Bradley Police say two persons face mob action charges and more arrests are likely after a fight last week at a local restaurant. Two rival gangs started a fight leading to a stabbing. Another restaurant patron was slightly injured by a flying plate when the fight broke out. Daniel Chavez, 21, of Kankakee, was taken to Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Yozet P. Andrade, 18, of Kankakee, and a 15-year-old Kankakee juvenile were arrested by Bradley police for mob action. Police said Chavez also faces arrest for mob action upon his release from the hospital. The Daily-Journal reported Chavez was stabbed three times and treated for non-life threatening injuries. It was determined by police that the two groups of youths were identified as Kankakee area street gang members. At least nine other youths involved in the fight fled the scene.
  • KAMEG agents arrested 73-year-old Willie Braxton of Kankakee Tuesday for four counts of delivery of crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of government housing. The arrest capped a three-month investigation of illegal drug activity at a house in the 300-block of North Wildwood Avenue. Police said that at the time of the arrest, they found eight adults and 15 juveniles inside, plus a quantity of marijuana, firearm ammunition and drug smoking pipes. Neighborhood complaints led to a 3-month investigation.
  • A court hearing is scheduled today in Grundy County for a rural Ransom woman, charged with driving drunk and killing a Dwight mother and her two children last week. 43-year-old Ann Getz was driving westbound on the Gardner blacktop when she ran a stop sign at Route 47. Her car collided with a southbound car driven by 27-yr-old Amanda Jahn (John). Amanda, her 11-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son were killed. The Grundy County state’s attorney office reports Getz faces a 28-year prison sentence if convicted. Getz was sentenced to court supervision in 2001 for driving under the influence. For a second DUI seven months later, she was sentenced to jail and her license was revoked for three years.
  • A former Loda fireman has a court date in Watseka. 24-year-old Steven Stout faces an arson charge after a series of suspicious fires last year in-and-around the Loda community. Stout is charged with 2-counts of arson for allegedly setting fire to his father’s garage and his estranged girlfriend’s garage. The fires were two in about a dozen fires that alarmed the Iroquois County farming community. Today’s 1 pm court hearing is before Judge Susan Tungate. Stout’s attorney has been negotiating with the State for a possible plea agreement.
  • Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police, meanwhile, are investigating another intentionally-set fire on property formerly owned by Loda fire chief Dave Pruitt. A garage behind a vacant house–next door to former Loda firefighter Steve Stout–was destroyed Tuesday. The case is being investigated as arson.
  • The public is encouraged to get involved with a rally planned to help save the Pontiac Prison. Livingston County residents are spearheading a drive to Springfield next Wednesday (Nov 19th). A rally at the Capitol is designed to get Governor Blagojevich to reconsider his planned closing of the 133-year-old correctional facility.
  • The Central Comets resume post-season football action Saturday. The 9-2 Comets host Bushnell-Prairie City in a 5 pm contest at Clifton. WGFA airs the game on 94.1 FM.
