- State’s Attorney races are featured in today’s election in three local counties. Jim Devine is challenged by Dale Strough in Iroquois County. Jamie Boyd has an opponent in J. Imani Drew in Kankakee, and Dan Brown is in a race against Randy Brinegar in Vermilion County. A few contested county board races are also on the ballots in all three counties.
- Today’s expected to be a long day as election officials work through what’s expected to be a major turnout of voters. The last few weeks lend support to a high voter turnout. Many opted to use Early Voting to cast their ballots.
- Kankakee’s mourning the loss of a civic leader. Family and friends are dealing with the death of Reva G. Small, a long time Kankakee resident and community servant. Mrs. Small, 89, most recently of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Sunday at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Mrs. Small was the sponsor and driving force for 30 years behind the Kankakee Valley Symphony’s Young Artists Piano Concerto annual event at Olivet Nazarene University. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Schreffler Funeral Home, 1900 W. Court St., in Kankakee. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee.
- The Watseka Police Department is hosting its 7th annual Cops for Kids Snacks with Santa Claus Saturday, December 6th. The event is at the Watseka Elk’s Lodge. Cops for Kids are now accepting new toy donations and Monetary funds for the program. Contact the city police at 815-432-6821.
- A seven-year-old Indiana girl died after being hit by a van Sunday in Monticello. Police say she ran into the street. Indiana State Police Sergeant Dave Murray says the van was driven by 56-year old Donna Norris, of Monticello. She was in the southbound lane on Main Street near South Street when the girl ran into her path. The girl was taken to White County Memorial Hospital. She was then transported to Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police have not released the girl’s name.
- Police on Monday were continuing to investigate a series of crashes on Interstate 39 near Hudson Friday night that killed a 4-month-old boy and sent nine others to area hospitals. Rayden Terrell of El Paso died Sunday morning at a Peoria hospital, where he was being treated for injuries sustained in a minivan during the crash. He was pronounced dead at 9:25 a.m. at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center’s pediatric intensive care unit. Brayden, who was restrained, was riding in the minivan with his foster mother, Lyndall Canter, and an 8-year-old child. Canter was in fair condition Monday at OSF Saint Francis, where the 8-year-old also was still hospitalized Sunday. llinois State Police said Saturday that it appears a semitrailer truck failed to reduce speed as it approached slowed traffic caused by an earlier accident on I-39 north of Hudson. The truck sent vehicles into the median.
