- Illinois State Police report four buffalo escaped from a farm in Braidwood yesterday and were shot after they blocked morning traffic on I-55. The buffalo wandered onto the interstate, shutting down the highway in both directions in the Coal City and Braidwood area. Hours later, the owners shot and killed the animals. The interstate was eventually reopened.
- A bicycle-semi accident in Stockland Monday afternoon resulted in a minor injury to a juvenile. Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police investigated. Milford Fire and Rescue and the Stockland Fire department responded. Police report the semi-tractor driven by Benjamin Hollis of Stockland was eastbound on county road 860-N. It was struck by the juvenile riding a bicycle just east of the intersection at 2830-E. The youth was treated and released at Iroquois Memorial Hospital.
- A six-year-old Danville girl was critically injured when hit by a car in Danville. It happened Saturday in the 900-block of West Voorhees Street. Police said the girl was playing with other children on the north side of the street when she chased a ball or something into the street. She ran into the path of a westbound car. The girl nor the driver of the car were identified by police.
- The apparent drowning of a two-year-old Fairbury boy remains under investigation. Carter Tjarks (jarks) was in a boat fishing with his grandfather last Friday in Rock Island County. The grandfather suffered an apparent diabetic episode and lost consciousness. The child was missing when the grandfather regained consciousness. The toddler was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
- An 85-yr-old Danville woman died Saturday after her car collided with another vehicle on Danville’s north side. Barbara Doney was pronounced dead at 3:30 pm. Police report the woman was pulling from a senior complex on North Vermilion Street. Her car was hit by a northbound pickup truck. The truck driver, 18-yr-old Amber Kinney of Westville, and a passenger received minor injuries.
- The Pontiac prison hearing is set for Wednesday at the Pontiac High School auditorium. The doors opoen at 4 pm. The hearing will begin at 5 pm. Area lawmakers and Livingston County officials are encouraging public support. Governor Blagojevich has recommended the prison be closed and inmates moved to the newer prison facility at Thomson.
