  • Sheriff’s Police in Iroquois County have a Hoopeston man in custody for sexual abuse. 26-year-old Christopher Howe was returned to the county jail from Vermilion County’s correctional center. Howe was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.
  • State Representative Corrine Gordon helped push legislation protecting children from sex offenders. Governor Blagojevich signed five pieces of legislation Thursday designed to increase protections for children from convicted sex offenders. The legislation also allows Illinois State Police to create an offender database website.
  • A traffic stop in Dwight finds two Gardner men facing Class X felony charges. 25-yr-old Thomas Robbins and 26-yr-old Shane Wilkey are each charged with Unlawful Possession with intent to deliver Heroin. Both men are jailed in Livingston County. Bonds are set at $20,000 each.
  • Circuit Judge Kathy Bradshaw-Elliott held a status hearing in Kankakee court yesterday on the case involving Bourbonnais bank robber Rick James Pierce. A psychiatric evaluation is still pending. The defense is seeking an insanity defense, based on Pierce’s toubled past. The 49-yr-old Pierce–from Bradley–is facing an aggravated bank robbery charge for a May 17th bank robbery at the Centrue Bank.
  • Cissna Park’s Old Settlers Reunion got started Thursday evening. The 3-day annual event is sponsored by the Cissna Park American legion Post #527. Most of the celebration is held in the downtown park. The Singing Men of GNN are featured on stage at 7:30 tonight. Saturday at 8 pm one of the top country bands in the Midwest performs, Danny Everhart and the Danny Everhart Band. The Old Settlers parade steps off at Noon Saturday.
