  • In Iroquois Court Friday, Judge Williams Schmidt denied defense motions in the case against accused Iroquois County Clerk Mark Henrichs. The rulings set the state for a status hearing for a future trial date. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office is pursuing the “trailer swap” case against Henrichs who’s charged with 2-counts of forgery, 2-counts of felony theft, and 4-counts of official misconduct. A stats hearing for trial is scheduled for October 24th.
  • A ballot error that happened in the Iroquois County Clerk’s Office has turned into a legal dispute. A hearing to make it right for the respective candidates involved in a District 2 county board race is re-set for Friday, August 15th. The case is assigned to Judge Kendall Wenzelman.
  • A hearing on the Pontiac prison closing now has a new date. Wednesday, August 20th is when a state commission convenes at Pontiac High School. The original meeting for tomorrow was postponed because Governor Blagojevich called lawmakers into special session. Next Wednesday’s meeting is at 5 pm. The Governor now says he’d consider leaving the prison open if lawmakers agree on a capital bill.
  • A garage fire in Brook, Indiana spread to a house and did in excess of $100,000 damage over the weekend. Brook Fire Chief Kyle Conrad reports no injuries from the Saturday night event. The cause is under investigation, but it did start in a detached garage. Firemen arrived to find the flames had spread to the nearby house. Firemen from Brook, Goodland and Morocco were on the scene for a little more than two hours.
