The Iroquois County Board Tuesday voted 16-6 to deny a Conditional-Use permit for a Belmont Township trucking operation. The vote to deny Mike Freeeman’s request may signal the end of the business—at least in the rural location where’s it’s been operating the last handful of years. Freeman’s operation has been the subject of several zoning duscussions in recent weeks. The Conditional-Use request was tabled by officials with hopes a workable solution could be worked out. Tuesday’s vote however, now makes the business in violation of ordinance and subject to daily fines.

The County’s Recycling Center may be sold. It’s far from a done deal, but private recycling businesses are showing interest in taking over the operation, which the county has been operating in an M-1 Industrial District along Route 24, west of Crescent City. If sold, the property site may have to be rezoned with a Conditional-Use for a scrap yard operation.

Board Chairman Bill Flott said nothing’s been finalized; we’ll just see who may be interested. He said we want board members to be aware and ready to make a move if/when the time is right.
