Organizers of the Relay for Life in Iroquois are prasing all involved–again. Saturday’s annual event at Watseka High School raised more than $168,000 — surpassing the $165,000 goal. Co-Chairman Jim and Carol Dexter report all participants turned in another outstanding effort. “A Night with the Stars” was this year’s theme. Featured speaker was John Kuntz of Loda, a surivor, who talked about attitude, faith and hope.

Kankakee County’s Relay for Life was held Saturday at Bishop McNamara High School. There were 72 teams and 200 survivors making their rounds at the track. This year’s Kankakee County goal is $345,000.

A Piper City man faces an Aggravated Assault charge following his arrest Sunday in Piper City. 60-year-old Rex Reinagle allegedly pointed a rifle at two local residents when he became angry at their dog for barking at him as he rode by the dog owner’s home on a bicycle. No shots were fired. Police recovered a .22 caliber rifle as evidence.

A diesel engine is just that—diesel. But two fuel thieves found out the hard way. Alexander Zaragoza and Robin Taylor of Beaverville were nabbed by police for Theft of fuel when their vehicle quit running because they put diesel in their tank. Both men are charged with Criminal trespass and Theft. Witnesses called police Saturday about a suspicious vehicle taking fuel from a tank in Papineau. Witnesses followed the vehicle until it quit—because of the fuel blend. Both suspects have since been released on bond.

The National Weather Service is looking for someone who’s been messing with the weather report. The NWS report finds someone submitting fictional reports of severe weather, causing unnessary alerts and frightening people in several areas, including Chicago and Lincoln.
