- The “No Smoking” signs could be going up across Illinois. The State Senate has passed a plan to ban smoking in all bars, restaurants, private clubs and other “indoor workplaces.” The plan passed by just four votes. The Illinois House could vote on its own statewide plan next month.
- House members said NO to a plan that would have made it illegal to light up in a car with kids inside. Representative Bill Black says he wishes no one smoked, but says it’s not the Legislature’s job to watch Illinois residents this closely.
- Kankakee County citizens can check out the County’s website and click on “Sheriff alert sign-up” to receive Text Messages about emergencies. The technology is now available to anyone choosing to register their cell phone number. Officials say it’s a big advantage to inform the public about weather and other emergency situations, including Amber Alerts.
- An Indiana woman turned herself in yesterday at the Iroquois County Jail. 34-yr-old Jody Dalton was wanted on a local warrant for DUI.
- 24-yr-old Brandon Sellek of Thawville faces a DUI charge. He was stopped Thursday by Illinois State Police for not wearing a seat belt. The smell of alcohol promoted test which Sellek failed. He was also cited for Driving Without Insurance and Driving While Revoked.
