Newton County crash injures one

A rollover crash in Newton County Saturday night injured the driver. Brook Fire Chief Kyle Conrad believes the crash was caused when the man had a medical emergency.

It happened just after 6 pm near the corner of Highway and Howard Streets in Brook. The vehicle went through a yard, hitting a mailbox and shrubs, before it came to a stop on its side.

First responders had to extricate the driver from the vehicle.

The un-identified driver was transported to Franciscan Health in Rensselaer by Newton County EMS.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the crash.

Clifton man survives car crash on Route 115

A traffic crash in Kankakee County Thursday morning split a car in half, but the driver escaped with what police said were not life-threatening injuries. Boyd Roof of Clifton managed to escape more serious injuries, or even death, when his car hit a pole and was split in half.

Illinois State Police investigated on Route 115 at 1300 S Road. Roof was air-lifted to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.
Limestone Fire extricated Roof from the wreckage. Alcohol and excessive speed were not factors, according to the police report.

Roof was northbound just before 3 am when his car left the road and went into the west ditch. The car traveled about 100 yards before hitting the utility pole.

Watseka Police arrest Bourbonnais man on warrant

A disturbance at a Watseka residence Thursday led to the arrest of 25-year-old Johnny Tisley. The Bourbonnais man was arrested by Watseka officers on a McLean County warrant for burglary. Tisley was found to be wanted in Lee County for failing to register as a sex offender.

Officers were dispatched to a Watseka location on N. Fourth Street. Police learned Tisley was wanted on the warrants.

Watseka woman faces alcohol charges after traffic crash

Twenty-year-old McKinze Fahey of Watseka was transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana after a traffic crash in Iroquois County Thursday. Fahey was treated at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, then transferred.

Sheriff's Police investigated the accident at 2150 N and 1550 E. Charges against Fahey include DUI, Illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Police reported Fahey was eastbound when she drifted into a ditch, traveled in the ditch for some distance, then over-corrected. The car jumped into the opposite ditch before the vehicle crossed an open field and hit a tree.

I-57 drama: police chase Thursday after man kills ex-wife’s husband, then kills himself

Two men are dead after an argument in Bridgeview (IL) and a police chase into Kankakee County Thursday. A 43-year-old man killed his ex-wife's husband, then took his own life after leading police on a chase down I-57.

Sergio Ramirez-Abeja shot and killed Santiago Garcia-Mendoza, according to police reports. The shooting occurred outside an apartment in Bridgeview just before 2 pm.

Abeja then led police down I-294 and I-57 to the Bradley area. There, police said he made a U-turn on I-57 and headed back north. He crashed his vehicle near Peotone and shot himself.

Up to two dozen police vehicles were involved in the pursuit. No other injuries were reported in the original shooting or in the police chase.
